Vintage Inspired Christmas Decor

I find my favorite Christmas Decorations are the ones that are either vintage or vintage inspired because they remind me of my house and my Grandma's at Christmas growing up. My Mom and Aunt were crafters and my Aunt used to make my Mom a set of ornaments every year.  My favorite were handmade Peanuts Character's - and of course Snoopy was my all time favorite!  I wanted to share with you some of my own Christmas decor that I cherish this time of year.  I wish you all Merry Christmas and hope you are enjoying making your homes merry and full of memories this holiday!

DIY Starbucks Costume

Edie actually let me make her a costume this year... Usually, She needs to look pretty or cool so it has been store bought for her!  So much fun to make this costume and really not hard at all.  The "tricky" part was the iron on transfer Starbucks logo.  Lila helped me with that which we got the logo from the internet and printed it from our printer at home onto transfer paper found at JoAnn.  It is fleece and could be no sew if you wanted to do it even more simply by using fabric glue.  The batting was glued and the lid and batting were also glued onto a simple white headband also found at JoAnn. I took a marker and drew the back of the sleeve and Starbucks gave us the lid and stir.

Tickled Pink - Dorothy Amling

This post is so long overdue - I want to give a very special THANK YOU to my friend, Dorothy Amling (the owner of Tickled Pink) who was such a huge help to me at my spring barn sale and with whom that night, I would have really been in a pinch without her.  I met Dorothy many years ago at an event in Bexley, OH and really just liked her from minute one.  Dorothy is so talented and I love her big signature flowered pins she makes that she is wearing in the photo.  Dorothy sets up in Springfield, OH at the Extravaganza and at the Country Living Fairs.  Check her out! Owl's New Home

A few years back, I made this owl for the barn door at my sale out of recycled materials.  One of my customers from that sale had always admired it and shared with me at the Country Living Fair a few weeks back that she loved the owl and bought it from me.  Here it is hanging at it's new home.  Thank you for sharing Jennifer.  It looks wonderful!

DIY Butterfly Wreath

-Grape Vine Wreaths
-Ribbon with Wire
-Burlap Ribbon with wire
-Faux Flowers
-Large Stick with Antennas (that can easily be found in your backyard!)

Lay out your grape vine wreaths. I put the larger size on the top and the smaller size on the bottom, to better imitate butterfly wings. Using wire, connect four wreaths together. Take a trek in your back yard to find a perfect stick with antennas! I wrapped the body of  mine in wired burlap ribbon. Using wired ribbon, I tied the stick to the wreaths, connecting in two locations, top section and bottom section. When your butterfly is complete, you can embellish with your favorite faux flowers! A friend of mine made burlap felt flowers, so I snuck two of those on my butterfly as well! Feel free to get creative!

All supplies can be found at your local craft store. There are many different Grape Vine Wreath sizes; I ended up making 3 different butterflies. One large, one medium, and one small. They worked perfectly as visual displays for my Barn Sale!

I would like to offer a bit of insight into the evolution of the Homegirl product line to those of you who have followed and supported me all these years on this amazing journey I have been blessed to be on with my business. Coming from a professional background in corporate retail, I was very specific in creating the Homegirl brand in hopes that it would be a home decor and gift-able product line, that would be offered via other independent or larger retailers, that would want to carry the feel good, colorful products that are in opposition to the safe, "beigeness" of the home decor product offerings that are available at mass. I have been knocking on this door for many years now, and have exhausted, examined and explored many different options to grow, change and expand, and feel good about the path that I am on and it has landed me at where I am today. I use the goodness of what I have created to "pass it on" knowing that growing only means I can give more back which has always been a cornerstone of my business and personal philosophy. AS ALWAYS, THANK YOU for allowing me to do what I love.  I could not be more full of excitement and energy for the PROGRESS and POSSIBILITIES to come!

Homegirl Product Line

Homegirl mentioned in Akron Beacon Journal article.

"Hudson’s Homegirl is going global. Gina Bishop, who has earned a local following for her periodic Homegirl barn sales, is coming out with her own home decor line. Bishop is working with a company based in China that will produce the products and distribute them to retailers internationally.
She said the line includes items such as accent pillows, throws, wall decor and other decorative accessories, all with a handcrafted feel. Most will be manufactured in India, except for a few higher-priced pieces she will make herself. Eventually she hopes to have some of her products made in the United States, she said.
The line is scheduled for launch next spring, although she hopes to have some of the products available at her next barn sale, June 5 to 7 at 2357 Hudson-Aurora Road. (Hours are 6 to 8 p.m. June 5 and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 6 and 7.) She also plans to sell the items at the Country Living Fair from Sept. 12 to 14 in Columbus".

The Road Not Taken

The other day I was in the car with my 10 year old, Edie and she asked if I knew about this poem they talked about at school that had a "secret message" called "The Road Not Taken". She proceeded to tell me that the path that "Does not have many footsteps on it, is the path that leads you to something better than the one that does."  She really has this amazing ability to speak to me about such things at the appropriate times when I seem to need it the most.  I wanted to re-read the poem and it made me want to share it.  I feel like personally I am at a point in my career that I am traveling a road I surely have never been on before and have to remember that the journey is really what matters more than the destination.
The Road Not Taken
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Where in the world has Homegirl been?

Yes, I do feel like where in the world have I been literally and figuratively.  In 5 weeks, I will have been in 3 different countries.  I was in India, Curacao, and now I am going to China tomorrow.  It really has been so cool and all feels surreal at the same time.  I was India because I am developing a Homegirl product line that will be produced there.  The Indian craftsmanship is beautiful and the hand work and hand touched feel are just what a Homegirl product line would be.  I was in such nice facilitates that work with Anthropologie, Crate &Barrel, Restoration Hardware and Target.  I feel so blessed to be in the position I am in and am working harder than I ever have to bring this to life.  I keep saying, "Careful what you wish for, because it may actually come true."  Here are pictures from my trip.  What an incredible adventure for me and Brian.

Our first time ever being on 14 hour flight from New Jersey to Delhi. We started out so excited and energized, so I had to include a before and after shot of us after the long travel.  I woke up at one point and looked at the flight map and we were flying over Russia.  The airport there was really neat. Loved the hands.

This is the Oberoi Hotel where we stayed in Delhi. I have never stayed in a more luxurious hotel. We loved everything about it, especially the butler button by our bed we were afraid to use at first.  But after the first time the butler brought us coffee, we were hooked.  I felt like I was in a James Bond movie for most of this trip, and this hotel was no exception.  Brian loved the incense burning everywhere and the food was so delicious.  We loved the savory Indian breakfasts.

This is what a workday looked like for us.  Everyone was so hospitable and we got flowers everywhere we visited.  I loved signing Homegirl in the guest book at one of the facilities we visited.  Before me, was the big ones like Sears, Crate& Barrel and Target.  THEN, Homegirl.  OH MY!

We flew from Delhi, to Jodhpur which was more Persian in feel and was just this beautiful city that is unlike anything I had every experienced.  We stayed in a villa on grounds of a king's castle.

We got to go to this event at the Mehrangarh Museum which was a fort that really was one of the neatest things I have ever gotten to see or do.  It was made of sandstone and felt like you were in a real life sandcastle.  Guests at this party we attended the next night were Mick Jagger and Sting.  Lucky us.  Playing celebrity for a bit.
