Ocean Bedroom Decor...

Love this ocean inspired bedroom picture I found on Pintrest the other day when I was helping a client with a re-design of a bedroom.  Simple vintage feeling design mixed with the natural elements of the ocean just feels so good!  I am dreaming of sleeping in this bedroom in this Hampton's house! Ahhhh!

Thinking Spring...

In needing some hope that SPRING really is on its way, I searched through old photos of spring sales I have had and came across these images I wanted to share!

Last year we revamped these old weathered Adirondack chairs by brushing them down with left over colorful paints we had.  A trick I like to do is water down the paint but adding just a little water so it looks weathered and not too new.  It did add new life to these chairs and they look so cheerful and inviting for sitting in the sun.

These green urns were spray painted with my favorite color of spray paint out there.  You can get it at Lowes and it is such a fun green color.  I believe it is Valspar and it really is like the color on the lid.  For Spring I add Orange pansies and put them on either side of my front door on my front porch.  This urn in the picture is the Summer version and is planted so cool.  I really like to mix up my planters and not get too hung up on the "design elements".  My favorite containers are those that boldly mix plants and are spilling over with growth!

You have to look very closely at the paper covered bird houses that are hanging in the fruit crates on the wall in the last photo but they are worth the look. My friend Jean made them, who sells at the barn.  By using scrap book papers and Modge Podge she collaged them adding so much personality.  We placed hangers on the backs of them so they could be mounted on a wall and they look so cute as a seasonal display or anytime display in your house.  You could put them in a hallway, bathroom, bedroom or on a mantle.  Really anywhere.  They are also a great project to get your kids involved in.

So as I sit in my sunlamp writing this post, wishing and hoping, I am trying to inspire ALL of  US to THINK SPRING!!! :)

Wake up?

"Let her sleep.  For when she wakes, she will move mountains."  I was on Etsy today working on an interior design project and I came across this quote to hang in a nursery. It brought the hugest smile to my face because I feel like it appropriately describes ME THIS WINTER!!!  I really did go into a hibernation mode  and very much felt like I needed a huge REST so that I would be able to AWAKE refreshed and better than before.

In contract to last winter, this winter my main goal was finding BALANCE, peace and calm between working and motherhood and joining the two instead of keeping them separate   I have been doing a ton of yoga and am doing a program through a studio here in Hudson (The Yoga Lounge) called "40 Days to Revolution" based on Baron Baptiste's book by the same name.  It has challenged me in so many positive ways and has made me realize that I really do need time to rest, renew and let go of things that are no longer serving me.

There are 2 basic constitutions that people possess.  Those with lots of energy that need to be in constant motion (you can guess what type I am, eh?) and those that are more calm and like to be sedentary.  Finding balance lies with embracing BOTH sides to ourselves and not letting ONE dominate.  So for me the hard part lied in sitting still, resting and stopping the constant of EVERYTHING.  For others, the difficulty lies in moving and action.  LET me tell you, it was a push to say the least.  For the most part I was on board but did find myself at some points rolling my eyes in the yoga studio in down dog when I just was not feeling very zen.  Hee! Hee!  I can laugh now because I know that just by practicing CALM and stillness (even if you don't want to) it is rubbing off on me.

The sun is shining as I write this email and the birds are singing in the morning and the days are staying light longer, so I am hopeful all of these signs are leading me to WAKE UP! :)
