Opening Night!

Are you ready to have some fun?! I am so excited for the sale, which starts tonight at 6pm and goes until 9pm. We'll have new merchandise every day, so stop back on Friday and Saturday, too!

There will be parking at the Hudson Board of Education buildings and the Hudson High School parking lots on Hudson-Aurora road, across the road from my farm. We'll also have a policeman directing traffic tonight, because if you've been to an opening night, you know it's packed! On that note, if you are able to carpool with a friend, it's a great idea. :)

I can't wait to show you all of the incredible finds I've been squirreling away in my barn. See you tonight!

Next up - THE SALE!! :)

Barn Sale "Tea"ser

Wow! Thanks for the great response here and on my Facebook page! You guys seriously rock. The contest is closed and I will be announcing the winner a little later today, so check back.

I am getting SO excited for the barn sale. I can't sleep and am up at the crack of dawn running around like crazy. But it's a good crazy.

Like my last sale, I've invited Angela Strach-Gotthardt to serve her amazing teas (mojito rooibos, almond citrus herbal blend, and earl grey creme) and scrumptious macarons in the lower-level (that sounds better than basement, right?) of the barn. Angela is the founder of the Secret Tea Society here in Hudson and has become a great friend. She also was just featured in the Akron Beacon Journal. Angela started the Secret Tea Society because of her love of teas and good conversation. Once a month she invites a small group of women to her home to listen to a hand-picked speaker and to engage in lively conversation. And, of course, to drink delicious tea! I just love that Angela has followed her bliss, and she hopes that her monthly "salons" help others create their own tea memories.

Angela plans to bring her teas and accessories (I just love her polka dot tea pots above!) to her own pop-up salon and shop during Hudson Days, but until then you can taste her yummy teas and treats downstairs in the barn!

Oh, and check out The Secret Tea Society's most recent video - it's really sweet.

Time is Ticking

Only a few hours left to get in on the giveaway! You guys are awesome!

I'll be posting the winner's name tomorrow. Can't wait to find out who our lucky "follower" is!

Be a Follower!

You guys know I am all about creative, independent thinking, but today I am asking you to be a follower! At least, when it comes to my blog and Facebook page. :) And to thank you I'm going to give away something from the barn sale. It's a contest and a sneak preview all in one!

You can enter one of two ways. Either click the Follow Me button on the right side navigation bar of this blog or "Like" my Homegirl Facebook page. Then leave a comment here on the blog or on my Facebook page saying you did so. To thank you, I'll enter your name into a drawing to win your choice of a fantastic prize, plucked from the barn. The winner will chose from a "Love" sign made from found objects

or a Rewined (cute name right?) candle, Chardonnay scented. It comes in a cool, repurposed wine bottle container.

The contest closes at midnight on Tuesday, May 29th and I'll draw a name on the 30th, the day before the barn sale. I will post the winner's name on the blog and Facebook. And don't worry, if you already like our FB page or follow the blog, you won't be left out. Just leave a comment here or on Facebook too, and you'll be entered. (Due to shipping, I am only able to open this contest to Homegirl readers in the United States.)

Thanks for supporting Homegirl! It's been a crazy year and I can't wait to share some of the exciting things I've been dreaming up and working on with you.

Homegirl Article - Akron Beacon Journal

I woke up at an ungodly hour this morning, walked down to the end of my driveway, in my pajamas nonetheless, sat on the ground with legs crossed and squealed a bit (ok, I squealed a lot!) when I saw this amazing spread.

I am just so happy with the article in the Akron Beacon Journal (which describes a bit about the upcoming decorating-tip videos I did for MSN.com) and how awesome it looks. If you can get your hands on a copy, check it out. It's even better in person!

Hauling Power

For the past few years whenever I found a big piece that I wanted to bring to the barn, I had to get creative. Until I got my van. Oh how I love my van!

Now I can get cool things, like this ENORMOUS furniture crate into the back of the van and I don't have to think twice.

Ok, maybe I have to think twice, but we always get it loaded! :)

On the Air with Nate Berkus

Hi there! Welcome to homegirlshop.com if you are just finding us from The Nate Berkus Show. The All-Star DIY Showdown may not have turned out as I had hoped, but I had a fantastic time nonetheless! :)

Nate is such a sweetheart and my competition, Hannah Flora is truly talented. I really did like what she created!

If you liked my trunk turned desk stay tuned. I am going to post a tutorial on how I did it (and show you just how cute it looks in Lila's room!) soon.

Thanks for tuning in to Nate today and keep coming back here for information and inspiration. Have a fantastic week everyone!

Just a reminder that I will be on the Nate Berkus Show tomorrow, Monday May 14th. Here's a little blurb about it in the Akron Beacon Journal. The show is on at 10:00 on Channel 43 (WUAB) in the Cleveland area. Check local listings here for show times in other areas. I hope you enjoy it!

Another date with Nate!

Hey Homies! Remember last year when my sister Susie and I were on the Nate Berkus Show decorating rooms with finds we picked up at the World's Longest Yard Sale? Well cutie-pie Nate asked me back (we blogged a little teaser here) and the show airs this coming Monday, May 14th. I know!! So fun.

In January, Brian and I packed up the Homegirl cruiser and headed back to NYC.

I don't want to give too much away, but the premise for this appearance was City Style vs. Country Style. Yes, I was the country girl. Could it be because I run Homegirl out of my barn in Ohio?!

Me and my competition were given a trunk and a bed (see pic below) and $500 to pick up furnishings/decor that needed a little DIY love.

It was such a whirlwind. I had an amazing time and had to pinch myself over and over again as I was tooling around the CBS studios. I just felt so lucky to be back!

Poor Brian, this is what he felt like he did our entire trip! Girls are expensive, especially in NYC. (And remember, I love SHOES! Of course I had to get a new pair while I was there.)

Anyway, like I said, the show airs Monday, May 14th and I am excited... and nervous... to watch my episode. Check it out locally on Channel 43 (WUAB) at 10:00 am and let me know what you think of my room design. (Here's a station finder for Nate's show if you aren't in the Cleveland area.)

I love Nate and had such an awesome time filming with him again!

A Shoe Thing

Do you know that song about new shoes? The lyrics are "I put some new shoes on and suddenly everything is right." I LOVE that song. Because it's me. I seriously adore shoes. And if I am feeling bad, mad, sad, really any of the -ads, I put some of my favorite shoes on, especially my cheetah ones, and it transforms my mood. I'll also slap on a cute pair when I am needing some inspiration. I don't know what it is about footwear that can get me going in the right direction again, but it literally starts from the ground up!

A little while ago I decided I needed to organize my shoe collection, so I yanked all of them out of my closet and piled them in the living room. Nothing makes me happier than these pictures - it's my shoe-topia!

This one makes me laugh - it's like Where's Waldo. Can you find our sweet kitty? She's hiding in there.

My girls love my shoes, too. They are always trying them on and I know it won't be long before they are borrowing them on a regular basis. A really cute book we love is called Birdie's Big Girl Shoes by Sujean Rim. It's about a little girl who can't wait to be just like her mom, especially when it comes to wearing "big girl" beautiful shoes.

I guess I am lucky that sometimes all it takes is some cute footwear to change my attitude. It's been a while since I got a new pair... I think a little online shoe shopping is in order tonight!

PS - If you want to listen to the "New Shoes" song, check it out:

Running for a Good Cause

So on top of all the insanity and the craziness of our life at the Bishop household, I have to give a shout out to my husband Brian. He is going to run his first marathon, the Cleveland Marathon, on May 20th to raise money for cancer research. I am so very proud of him and after so many years of his "over-achieving" I think this takes the cake! It is such a major commitment and we are all cheering him on.

Brian is running for an amazing cause and his motivation is very personal. He is raising money for thLeukemia and Lymphoma Society, which funds blood cancer research. Brian chose this particular group to support because he lost two very important people in his life to cancer.

Brian's best friend Jeff was just 24 when he passed away. Brian was given Jeff's favorite NY Yankees hat (a hat that he and I wear all the time) and he will wear it on race day to honor Jeff. Jeff was one of our favorite people and we miss him so much.

Brian is also running in memory of his grandpa, who died at 92. His grandfather was such a great man and he is really missed, too.

Our local paper did a story on him in yesterday's paper. In the article there's a cute picture of the girls with Brian and a sign they made after he got home from a 17 mile run. Can you imagine running 17 miles even once? I don't like running one mile and he has to do it multiple times before he is ready for race day.

If you would like to make a donation, click here. Every bit helps. Brian has set a goal of $8,000 and I know we can get there.

My Kind of Town - Hudson, OH

As you make plans to come to Hudson for the Barn Sale on May 31, June 1 or June 2, I urge you to add in some extra time to explore my sweet little city.

I moved here from Columbus in 2006 because I loved the small town atmosphere of Hudson and I knew it would be an excellent place for Edie and Lila to grow up. What I didn't know at the time was just how cool this little place was. Boutiques and shops line Main Street. Yes, Hudson is somewhat like a Norman Rockwell painting. And behind Main Street is a shopping area called First and Main. One of the shops I love in First and Main is AR2. (I bought the blue dress you see me wearing in the sidebar on the right there.)

Not only does AR2 carry some really incredible clothing, they also have some seriously cool home decor.

The girls at AR2 have an upcoming fun event you can take advantage of. On May 11 and 12 they will have national makeup artists from Trish McEvoy in store giving free sessions. You can check out their new summer selections while you get your makeup done. RSVP to 330.653.9538.

Hudson has been a great place to live, but also a great place to shop (and eat, but that's another post for another time!).
